Hi, I’m Tim
I’m a Dutch entrepreneur, online business owner and horse trainer. I’m in the process of moving to the Algarve with my British partner and our seven-year-old son.
We’ve been visiting the Algarve for years. Every time we left we found ourselves talking about moving there properly. Eventually we stopped talking and started doing it.
Why the Algarve?
The weather is the obvious starting point. But for me the bigger thing is what the weather makes possible. One of the things I feel strongly about as a parent is that my son spends as much time outside as possible. In the Algarve that’s just normal life — kids play outside, families eat outside, you’re in the fresh air almost every day of the year. That’s not really possible where we’re coming from.
Beyond that, life here is just more relaxed. Not slow in a way that means nothing happens, but calmer. Less noise, less rushing, less of the stress that creeps up on you when you’ve been living in busy northern European cities for years. We wanted a different pace for our family and the Algarve gives you that.
The international community also matters when you’re moving with a child. There are good schools with English-language options, and enough other families in the same situation that our son won’t feel like the only one navigating a new country.
Why this site?
When we were planning the move, most of what we found online was either too vague or clearly written by someone who had never actually spent time in the Algarve. We had real questions — about areas, about costs, about schools, about what daily life actually looks like — and finding straight answers was harder than it should have been.
Find It Algarve is the site I wanted to exist when we were planning ours. Everything here is written from real experience — from our years visiting the region, from going through the process of planning a family relocation, and from what we’re discovering now that we’re actually living here.
